Backlinks

Backlinks are webpages taken from Referer headers sent to the imperialviolet webserver.

Referers (I know that is spelt wrong, but that is how it is spelt in the HTTP/1.1 standard and on the wire) are generated by your web browser when you click on a link to site b from site a. Your browser is basically saying "This is where I came from"

The practical upshot of which is you can see what weird and wonderful searchs turned up IV . Take, for example, http://www.google.com/search?q=%22living+out+of+your+car%22&hl=en&lr=&start=10&sa=N. If you read into that you can see that someone found IV by searching for "living out of your car". I hope they had better luck with the other results!
